Jacksonville University got goals from freshman midfielder Jenny Sniffen (Wilmington N.C.), sophomore forward Crystal Armstrong (Griswold, Conn.) and junior midfielder Kristen Holstrom (Anaheim, Calif.) on their way to an impressive 3-0 road-win over Georgia State in their Atlantic Sun conference opener Thursday afternoon. The win, which was Dolphins 12th straight victory over a conference opponent, extended the Dolphins' Atlantic Sun regular season win streak to 14 games.
The Dolphins, who have not lost a regular season game since the 1999 season, were held at bay by the Panther defense as both teams took a scoreless tie into halftime. However, the Dolphin offense dominated the second half, scoring all three goals and outshooting the Panthers 8-4.
Sniffen, who got off a team-high four shots, scored the first goal of her collegiate career in the 53rd minute as her shot found its way through several GSU defenders, giving JU a 1-0 lead. Armstrong followed suit in the 74th minute of the match with her first goal of the season, putting the Dolphins up 2-0. The Dolphins took a commanding 3-0 lead in the 84th minute as Holstrom finished the scoring with her first goal of the season.
The Dolphins' next outing will be on Saturday, September 15, as they travel to Macon, Ga. to take on conference opponent Mercer at 1 p.m.
