JU Women's Soccer Duels to 1-1 Tie with Samford
Sept. 29, 2001
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -
Samford 1 0 0 0 1 Jacksonville 1 1 0 0 1
Sophomore forward Erika Chapman (Bradenton, Fla.) scored her third goal in two games and the Dolphins dominated play, outshooting Samford 27-11, but it wasn't enough for the win, as JU tied Samford, 1-1, Saturday afternoon in Atlantic Sun conference action. The tie moves the Dolphins record to 6-3-1 overall and 3-2-1 in the Atlantic Sun. The Bulldogs are now 5-4-1 overall, 2-0-1 in Atlantic Sun action.
The Bulldogs jumped ahead of the Dolphins in just the fourth minute, behind a shot from forward Hayley Kolb that was just out of the reach of JU goalie Stephanie Fowler (Seffner, Fla.). However, the Dolphins refused to be denied, as Chapman scored the equalizer in the 48th minute. Despite numerous opportunities, JU was unable to manage another score for the remainder of regulation or in the two overtime periods.
The Dolphins outplayed the Bulldogs in every facet of the match, more than doubling the Samford shot count, while keeping possession of the ball for more than half of the match.
The Dolphins return to action as they travel to Tampa to take on South Florida in a non-conference matchup, on Saturday, October 6, at 7:30 p.m.
