Women's Soccer Loses Heartbreaker to Georgia Southern, 1-0, In Overtime
Oct. 9, 2001
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - JU freshman goalkeeper Stephanie Fowler (Seffner, Fla.) made a career-high eight saves, but it was not enough as Georgia Southern midfielder Jackie Kinsey scored the matches lone goal in the 98th minute to give the Eagles a 1-0 overtime win over the Dolphins Tuesday afternoon in non-conference play at Ashley Sports Complex. JU falls to 6-5-1 with the loss, while Georgia Southern improves to 7-3-1.
Neither team saw any real opportunities to score until the overtime period. JU, who was outshot in the match 20-4, was denied on its best chance to score as Eagle goalkeeper Tanya Woehr blocked away a point-blank blast from junior midfielder Kristen Holstrom (Anaheim, Calif.) 96th minute. Georgia Southern would take advantage of its opportunity moments later as Kinsey took a pass from Amanda Bernard and beat Fowler to end the match.
The Dolphins return to action on Sunday, October 14, at 2 p.m. when they host Belmont in A-Sun conference play, at the Ashley Sports Complex.
