Orlando, Fla. - The Jacksonville University women's soccer team overcame an early 1-0 deficit to defeat Quinnipiac University, 3-1, Sunday afternoon in the third game of the UCF/Kappa Invitational at the UCF soccer field. Junior Inge Heiremans (Tremelo, Belgium), sophomore Hanni Wenzel (Camano Island, Wash.) and freshman Amber Otto (Deland, Fla.) were each named to the all-tournament team for the Dolphins. Quinnipiac jumped out to an early 1-0 lead, as Claudia Castaneda connected off a cross from Christine LaVallee in the 14th minute. JU tied the game, 1-1, in the 26th minute when Heiremans scored off a cross from the right side from sophomore Dianne Herlihy (Key West, Fla.). Heiremans gave the Dolphins a 2-1 advantage two minutes later connecting on a penalty kick. JU scored early in the second half, as sophomore Michaelene Cadiz (Lutz, Fla.) scored an unassisted goal in the 48th minute, giving JU a 3-1 lead. Sophomore goalkeeper Stephanie Fowler (Seffner, Fla.) played the entire game for the Dolphins and recorded two saves. The Dolphins host South Florida in their home opener on Sunday, September 8 at the Ashley Sports Complex at 1 p.m. |
