JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Jacksonville University women's soccer team scored three second-half goals en route to a 3-1 victory over Gardner-Webb in its Atlantic Sun Conference opener. The Dolphins have now won five-straight games overall, their longest streak since the 2000 season when they won 16 straight. Freshman Ranveig Aas-Hanssen (Skien, Norway) led the Dolphins scoring her fourth goal in three games.
The Dolphins wasted no time getting on the board in the second half as Aas-Hanssen took a feed from Inge Heiremans (Tremelo, Belgium) in the box and placed the ball just inside the right post in the 47th minute, giving JU a 1-0 advantage. The Lady Bulldogs tied the game in the 59th minute as Allison James scored on a direct kick just outside the box.
JU quickly retained the lead one minute later as Hanni Wenzel (Camano Island, Wash.) was able to poke the ball in the net off a corner kick from Brooke Moore (Tampa, Fla.). Senior Vanessa Illanes (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) put the game out of reach scoring in the 90th minute on an empty net with the feed coming from freshman Regan Rone (South Amboy, N.J.) to make the score 3-1 Dolphins.
The Dolphins return to action on Saturday traveling to Nashville, Tenn., to take on Lipscomb at 2 p.m. and Sunday against Belmont at 1 p.m.
