JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Jacksonville University women's soccer team defeated Troy State, 5-3, Friday afternoon at the Ashley Sports Complex in Atlantic Sun action. Senior Vanessa Illanes (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) had a goal and three assists and junior Inge Heiremans (Tremelo, Belgium) had two goals and an assist to lead the Dolphins' (8-1-0, 3-0-0 A-Sun) to their eighth-straight victory.

In the first half, JU scored first in the 17th minute as Juli Petrauskas (Austin, Texas) set up Heiremans, who blasted a shot inside the far post just outside the box to put the Dolphins ahead 1-0. Illanes set up freshman Amber Otto (Deland, Fla.) in the 27th minute, playing a perfect cross into the box with Otto heading the ball into the net to put JU up 2-0. Reserve Courtney Hardy (Austin, Texas) made it 3-0 Dolphins, scoring on a header from a free kick by Illanes to make it 3-0 JU at the half.

Troy State scored in the 46th minute as Lynn Rankin found the net to make it 3-1 Dolphins. Illanes and Heiremans combined for the Dolphins' next two goals as Heiremans set up Illanes in the 63rd minute and Illanes returned the favor to Heiremans in the 73rd minute to give JU a comfortable 5-1 lead. The Trojans (1-7-0, 0-4-0 A-Sun) scored two goals in the final thirty seconds to close the gap 5-3.

The Dolphins return to action hosting Mercer on Sunday, Sept. 29 at the Ashley Sports Complex at 2 p.m.
