BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Senior forward Vanessa Illanes (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) scored a goal and added an assist as the Dolphins defeated Samford, 3-0, in Atlantic Sun action Saturday night at Bulldog Field. The Dolphins are now a perfect 5-0 in conference play and extend their winning streak to 10 games overall.

In the first half, Illanes took a feed from junior Inge Heiremans (Tremelo, Belgium) and blasted a shot from the right side about 30 yards out, beating Bulldog keeper Crystal Royall in the 15th minute to give JU the early 1-0 lead.

The Dolphins (10-1-0, 5-0-0 A-Sun) added to their lead early in the second half as freshman Ranveig Aas-Hanssen (Skien, Norway) scored off a corner kick from Illanes in the 47th minute, giving JU a 2-0 lead. Senior Juli Petrauskas (Austin, Texas) scored the Dolphins third goal in the 68th minute, taking a pass from Michaelene Cadiz (Lutz, Fla.) sending it just past Bulldog keeper Sherry Nuckolls in the lower right corner. Sophomore keeper Stephanie Fowler (Seffner, Fla.) made five saves in recording her fourth shutout of the season for the Dolphins.

The Dolphins return to action on Monday, Oct. 7, as they travel to Jacksonville, Ala., to take on the Jacksonville State Gamecocks at University Field at 2 p.m.
