ORLANDO, Fla. - JU sophomore forward Michaelene Cadiz (Lutz, Fla.) scored in the 90th minute to give the JU women's soccer team a thrilling 3-2 victory over UCF in Atlantic Sun action Wednesday night at UCF Soccer Field. The Dolphins are now the only undefeated team in the A-Sun as they improve to 7-0-2 in the conference and 12-1-2 overall, remaining unbeaten in their last 14 games.
Senior Vanessa Illanes (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) found Cadiz on the left side in the 90th minute and Cadiz sent a rocket past Golden Knights keeper Carol Lewis for the game-winner, her second goal of the night. Sophomore keeper Stephanie Fowler (Seffner, Fla.) made five saves for the Dolphins, who hand UCF their first A-Sun loss.
With the score tied 1-1 at the half, sophomore Lauren Starmer (Oviedo, Fla.) gave the Dolphins a 2-1 lead in the 53rd minute, finding a loose ball after a corner kick. UCF tied the game, 2-2, in the 85th minute as Brooke Asby set up Jennifer Montgomery from 12 yards out.
JU scored first in the 33rd minute as Cadiz took a pass from freshman Ranveig Aas-Hanssen (Skien, Norway) for her first goal, putting the Dolphins in front 1-0. The Golden Knights tied the game, 1-1, 13 seconds later as Jennifer Montgomery scored.
The Dolphins return to action on Saturday as they host the Stetson Hatters in Atlantic Sun play at the Ashley Sports Complex at 2 p.m.
