Ranveig Aas-Hanssen Tabbed A-Sun Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
Sept. 29, 2003
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - JU sophomore forward Ranveig Aas-Hanssen (Skien, Norway) was named Atlantic Sun women's soccer Offensive Player of the Week, the conference office announced on Monday. Aas-Hanssen led the Dolphins with six goals in two matches last week, and leads the A-Sun in points (26) and goals (12).
Aas-Hanssen tied a school record with a career-high four goals in a 7-1 win over Belmont on Thursday. In the win over the Bruins, the Dolphins set a school record for shots in a single match with 33, surpassing the old mark of 32, set on Oct. 7, 1998 against Stetson. The seven goals against Belmont were the most since JU defeated Howard, 9-0, on Sept. 8, 2000.
In the 2-1 win over Lipscomb on Saturday, Aas-Hanssen scored both goals, including the game-winner. Aas-Hanssen scored her first goal on a direct kick in the 14th minute to tie the game at 1-1, then sealed the win in the 79th minute when she scored inside the box off a deflection from a corner kick. This marks the second time this season that Aas-Hanssen has been named A-Sun Offensive Player of the Week, giving her three weekly awards for her career.
The Dolphins, who are 4-5 overall, and 2-0 in the Atlantic Sun, hit the road this week, facing Georgia State on Friday at 4:00 p.m., before playing Mercer on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
