Sept. 10, 2004
ORLANDO, Fla. - The Jacksonville University women's soccer team scored first but could not hold down the Falcons, as the Air Force Academy won 2-1 in overtime in the UCF Fall Invitational at the UCF Soccer Complex in Orlando, Fla. Air Force's Elaine Tatarek found Sean Henry on a cross from the outside to record the gamewinner at the 91:38 mark. The Dolphins, who have played in three overtime matches this season, fall to 0-3-1 on the year, while Air Force improves to 3-2.
The Dolphins struck first when redshirt freshman Stephanie Elgie (London, Ontario) scored off a pair of assists from sophomore midfielders Jenny Borschel (St. Petersburg, Fla.) and Hilary Bricken (Ft. Myers, Fla.). The play started when Bricken served the corner kick into the penalty box to Borschel, who headed it to Elgie for the finish. The goal, scored in the 26th minute, was Elgie's second of the season. The Falcons tied up the match in the 70th minute on a Brittney Perkowski penalty kick.
"At times and spurts, we played well," said head coach Chris Kouns. "We haven't gotten over the hump yet, but I know we're close to it."
The Dolphins outshot AFA, 20-17, while the Falcons held the edge in corner kicks, 5-4. JU sophomore goalkeeper Michelle Kmiotek (Tampa, Fla.) had eight saves in the loss.
