Women's Soccer Falls, 5-0, to No. 5 Florida State

Sept. 14, 2004

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Sophomore goalkeeper Michelle Kmiotek (Tampa, Fla.) stopped eight shots, but it was not enough as the Jacksonville University women's soccer team lost to fifth-ranked Florida State, 5-0, at Seminole Soccer Complex in Tallahassee, Fla., Tuesday night. The Dolphins fell to 1-4-1 on the season, while Florida State improves to 5-1. Five different Seminoles scored a goal in the 10th meeting between the teams.

FSU scored first in the sixth minute when Jez Ratliff put in a cross from Melissa Samokishyn. Nine minutes later, Leah Gallegos found the net with assists from Rachel McDowell and Julia Schnugg. The Seminoles struck again in the 36th minute, when Sarah Rosseau scored, getting assists from Kelly Rowland and Jez Ratliff. Just two minutes later, Alli Ferreri scored off a Holly Peltzer pass. Toby Ranck scored the last goal for FSU in the 71st minute on a give-and-go with Camie Bybee.

"The second half was much more indicative of how we can play," said Kouns. "Florida State is a top-notch program, and our kids came out and fought hard in the second half against them. I'm proud of the effort we showed tonight."

The Seminoles outshot the Dolphins, 20-3. JU took one shot on goal early in the second half, but sophomore forward Hilary Bricken (Ft. Myers, Fla.) could not get the shot past Seminole keeper Ali Mims.

The Dolphins have the weekend off before battling another in-state rival, Miami, at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 21 at Patton Park in the Kick Out Cancer Match. For details on the event, see judolphins.com.
