Women's Soccer Fights to 2-2 Draw at Troy
Oct. 10, 2004
TROY, Ala. - Freshman Daniela Davila's (Bradenton, Fla.) first career goal knotted the match at 2-2, and neither team could put another goal on the board in the final 60 minutes of play, as the Jacksonville University (3-7-2, 2-2-1 A-Sun) women's soccer team tied Troy (3-7-4, 1-2-3 A-Sun) at the Lady Trojan Soccer Complex Sunday afternoon.
Davila's goal came in the 48th minute when she punched in a shot off a deflection from a JU corner kick. She is the third true freshman to score for the Dolphins this year.
Troy took the initial lead in the 17th minute when Emily Cobb headed in a shot off Karlie Bierie's corner kick. The Dolphins answered 54 seconds later when Jess Newport (Forked River, N.J.) put in her second penalty kick of the year. Troy regained the advantage in the 38th minute, as Cathy Truszkowski took a pass from Karlie Bierie and shot it past Dolphin goalkeeper Michelle Kmiotek (Tampa, Fla.).
JU outshot the Trojans, 25-8, including taking 12 shots on goal to Troy's six.
"We really didn't capitalize on our opportunities today," head coach Chris Kouns said. "Troy deserves the credit. They play a very effective game, especially at home. We're just very disappointed to not come away with a win given all of our opportunities."
The Dolphins face in-state and conference rival Florida Atlantic at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 15 at FAU Field in Boca Raton.
