Jessica Hurtado named Atlantic Sun Offensive “Player of the Week”
Freshman forward Jessica Hurtado was named Atlantic Sun Conference Offensive “Player of the Week” after recording two goals, two assists and six points for the JU women soccer team during her first full week of collegiate games.

The Butler, N.J. native also became the first Dolphin freshman to receive the honor since Keri Zwikker earned it on Oct. 17, 2005.

“Jessica has done a fantastic job for us this week,” said JU head coach Brian Copham. “She played a lot of balls well out of the attacking third, which has helped our midfielders and forwards out. I was glad she was honored because she helped make the rest of the team better.”

On Aug. 25, Hurtado added her first collegiate goal inside the left corner of the net in the first half to give JU a 3-0 advantage over Flagler. She set up Zwikker ‘s first goal of the season on a pass in the 66th minute and hit a penalty kick less than three minutes later to wrap up JU’s 5-0 victory.

Hurtado finished her week by assisting Zwikker again as she scored on a deflection in the first half against Duquesne on Aug. 29.

The Dolphins will have a week of practice before heading to Tallahassee, Fla. on Sunday to face West Florida at 1 p.m.
