Women’s soccer faces USF, Francis Marion in final non-conference weekend
After a strong opener at the Ashley Sports Complex last Sunday, the JU women’s soccer team will look to make it three home wins in a row when USF and Francis Marion come to town this weekend.
The Dolphins (3-3) defeated Winthrop, 3-0, over the weekend on sophomore midfielder Becca Massip’s two-goal performance. Sophomore forward Eva Leeper added a third goal for JU while junior goalie Alexa Rooney posted her third clean sheet of the season.
“We’re excited about the challenges we have this weekend,” said JU head coach Brian Copham. “USF is an established program in one of the best conferences in the country and we know it’s going to be a big test for us. We’re also looking forward to seeing how our scouting reports hold up against Francis Marion, a team we don’t know too much about.”
The Bulls (4-1) come into to Jacksonville with the second best scoring offense in the BIG EAST (3.2 goals per game). So far this season, their potent offense has been paired with a stingy defense, giving up .60 goals per game.
Junior Chelsea Klotz leads the Bulls, and the conference, in shots and goals and is tied for first in the league in points. Through five games, she has scored seven goals this season.
The Patriots (2-5) enter this weekend’s match coming off a 3-1 win over A-Sun opponent ETSU, handing the Bucs their first loss of the season. Prior to their match on Sunday at the Ashley Sports Complex, the Patriots will face UNF on Friday night.
The Dolphins take on the Bulls at 7 p.m. on Friday night and host the Patriots at 2 p.m. on Sunday afternoon. Both games can be watched live at JUDolphins.com
