Women’s soccer set to host USC Upstate and ETSU
The JU women’s soccer team will return to the friendly confines of the Ashley Sports Complex this weekend to host USC Upstate and ETSU, including Senior Day on Sunday.
The Dolphins (6-4-2, 2-1-1 A-Sun) are unbeaten in all five of their home matches on the year and boast a 1-0-1 conference record in the River City. Seniors Emme Graham, Tamara Cormier, Jelena Vrcelj, Liza Grimsgaard, Sian Senior, Reba Stott and Devon Dowell will all be recognized prior to JU’s match against ETSU.
“Every conference weekend is a battle and we expect two more this weekend,” said JU head coach Brian Copham. “We played well last weekend and we’re looking to keep pushing forward. We’re also excited for Senior Day on Sunday to thank the seniors for all of the hard work they’ve put in over the last four years.”
Sophomore forward Lisa Hensley (5) and redshirt-junior midfielder Liz Fink (3) have combined for eight of JU’s 18 goals this season while junior goalie Alexa Rooney has started all 12 matches for the Dolphins and has logged 1050 minutes. Rooney has made 76 saves while allowing 14 goals (1.20 GAA).
Last weekend, the Spartans (3-8, 1-2) dropped their home conference opener against Belmont, 5-0, but picked up their first A-Sun win of the season against Lipscomb, 1-0.
The Buccaneers (6-3-1, 2-1) have won three of their past five matches and have outscored their opponents by a combined score of 8-5 during the run. In the team’s last outing, the Buccaneers fell to Belmont, 3-2, in double-overtime.
Friday’s match against USC Upstate will start at 7 p.m. while the Dolphins’ Senior-Day slate against ETSU will kick off at 1 p.m.
