Keeping its home unbeaten streak intact, the JU women’s soccer team dispatched of USC Upstate, 5-1, on a cool night at the Ashley Sports Complex.

The Dolphins (7-4-2, 3-1-1 A-Sun) outshot the Spartans (3-9-0, 1-3-0 A-Sun), 23-4, putting 12 on target. Goals for the green and gold were scored by sophomore forward Lisa Hensley, freshman forward Courtney Conrad, redshirt-junior midfielder Liz Fink and senior forward Jelena Vrcelj while junior goalie Alexa Rooney played 68 minutes of shutout soccer.

“It was a great team effort tonight,” said JU head coach Brian Copham. “I was pleased to see strong contributions from a lot of players. This was a great start to the weekend.”

The Dolphins jumped on the board in the 16th minute on a carbon-copy goal from last Friday’s match against Kennesaw State. Juinor midfielder Jessica Hurtado played a ball wide to sophomore midfielder Becca Massip and her cross was cleanly finished into the left corner of the goal by Hensley.

JU would double its lead several minutes later on a strike from Conrad. Taking a pass from Hensley, the freshman took two touches into the box and buried a ball into the left side of the net.

Fink opened up the second half with a drilled ball from 20 yards out. The redshirt-junior launched a shot after taking possession from the Spartan midfield and curled it into the top left corner. She would score again from a similar position 17 minutes later after a neat pass from Hensley at the top of the box. Fink drove her shot low and to the right side for JU’s fourth goal of the game.

Vrcelj would close out the match after USC Upstate’s lone goal of the game on a nice strike assisted by sophomore midfielder Alex Schulte.

The Dolphins will close out the weekend when they host ETSU on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. on Senior Day.
