The waiting is over for the JU women’s soccer team as semifinal Thursday has arrived at the Ashley Sports Complex with the No. 1 Dolphins facing No. 4 Kennesaw State tonight at 7 p.m. in the semifinals of the 2010 Atlantic Sun Women’s Soccer Championship.

Earlier this season, the Dolphins (12-4-2, 8-1-1 A-Sun) bested the Owls (8-7-3, 5-4-1), 1-0, in Kennesaw, Ga. Kennesaw State earned its trip to Jacksonville after beating No. 5 ETSU in penalty kicks, 4-2, last Saturday in Kennesaw.

“We’re all very excited to get back onto the field in front of our home crowd,” said JU head coach Brian Copham. “We know we have our work cut out for us against a very strong Kennesaw State side.”

During the 2010 season, the Dolphins have been unbeaten at home, posting a record of 6-0-2 (4-0-1 in conference) and have outscored their opponents 18-2 during the stretch.

The two teams have met twice in the A-Sun Championship with Kennesaw State winning the last match, 1-0, last year in overtime in the semifinals. In 2006, the Dolphins were victorious, also in the semifinals, scoring 46 seconds into overtime. Both teams went on to win the conference championships after their victories and have won three of the last four tournaments.

Tonight’s match will be preceded by No. 2 Mercer facing No. 6 Stetson at 4 p.m. Both games will be broadcast live on A-Sun.TV free of charge on the Atlantic Sun channel.
