Women’s tennis excels at Troy Invitational
The JU women’s tennis team came away with another strong performance as two doubles teams won their respective draws at the Troy Invitational this past weekend. In an event that was stopped twice due to rain, the Dolphins kept their focus and turned in a successful result. The doubles teams of juniors Tatiana Soldatova/Eve Castaing and Iva Jaresova/Fernanda Carrero both won their respective draws.

“It was a great weekend for us,” said head coach Shane Wood. “We’re really happy to see wins by the two pairs and it’s a promising sign for the team. We still have one more fall tournament to play (UNF Invitational) so hopefully we can finish the fall off on a good note.”

Soldatova and Castaing won their first match easily, 8-3, but were then pushed hard by their next two opponents. The pair won the quarterfinal matchup, 9-7, and the semifinal contest, 9-8. In the finals, they found a slightly easier route to victory with an 8-5 win over Grymel/Guijt of host school Troy.

Jaresova and Careera also found themselves competing in close matches throughout the invitational. They won their first match, 8-6, with the same score coming in the quarterfinals. In the finals, the pair won convincingly, 8-4, over Byrd/Appleyard of Auburn University Montgomery.

The women are back in action during the weekend of Oct. 9-11 at the UNF Fall Invitational in Jacksonville, Fla.
