The Dolphins (5-4, 0-1 A-Sun) split the singles competition with the Hatters (7-2, 2-0 A-Sun) but the home side took the doubles point to ensure the victory.
“It was a hard-fought match and it was unfortunate to be on the losing end of it,” said JU head coach Shane Wood. “I’ve been saying all season long that the doubles point is the most crucial in the match and we just couldn’t get it today.”
The Dolphins opened up play with losses in all three doubles matches (8-4, 8-1, 8-1) and looked to steal a point from the singles competition.
Senior A-Sun “Player of the Week” Tatiana Soldatova came up victorious in her match, playing catch-up against Valentina Galbarini, 3-6, 6-0, 6-2. The other two Dolphin points came from Junior Eve Castaing (6-3, 4-6, 6-4) and Fernanda Carrero (6-7, 6-3).
JU is back on the court today against South Dakota State in Orlando, Fla.
