Women's tennis splits weekend against South Dakota State and FGCU
The JU women’s tennis team dropped its second A-Sun match of the season yesterday, falling to Florida Gulf Coast, 5-2, in Fort Meyers, Fla.

The Dolphins (6-5, 0-2 A-Sun) dropped the initial doubles point and were only able to convert their Nos. 1 and 2 singles positions in the defeat to the Eagles (3-5, 1-2).

“This was a tough one to drop,” said JU head coach Shane Wood. “There were a couple matches where we should have been more competitive but we’ll have to move on and get ready for the conference play this weekend.”

The Dolphins’ lone win in the doubles point came from the pairing of senior Tatiana Soldatova and junior Eve Castaing, 8-2.

In singles play, the doubles pair proved to produce the only two wins for JU. Soldatova won her match in a hard-fought, three set battle, 7-5, 3-6, 7-6 (10-8), while Castaing cruised to a win, 6-1, 6-1.

The day before, the Dolphins turned in a dominate performance over South Dakota State, winning 7-0 in Orlando, Fla.

JU didn’t drop a set in singles play and swept the doubles point as the Dolphins lost just nine games all day.

The Dolphins are back in action in back-to-back conference match-ups this weekend when they face Lipscomb and Belmont on Friday and Saturday at 2 p.m. respectively.
