Women's tennis drops a pair on the road against Mercer and Kennesaw State
The JU women’s tennis team endured a rough, in-conference weekend on the road, falling to Mercer and Kennesaw State 4-3 in both matches.

Against the Bears (5-4, 1-3 A-Sun), the Dolphins (6-7, 2-4) started nicely as they were able to convert their Nos. 1 and 2 singles positions (5-4, 1-3) but struggled in other matches.

“We just can’t put it together right now,” said JU head coach Shane Wood. “We’re not playing well throughout the lineup and, as a result, we came up short twice in two matches that we needed. It’s going to be back to the drawing board for us.”

The Dolphins dropped the Nos. 3-6 matches, as senior Fernanda Carrero beat Sarah Hanna, 6-1, 6-2.

In doubles play, the pair of Tatiana Soldatova and Iva Jaresova produced the only win for JU. The duo dominated Jennifer Lada and Amalia Bugge, 8-3. The Dolphins then dropped the next two doubles matches 8-6 and 8-0.

The next day proved just as rough as the Dolphins came up short against rival Kennesaw State (8-9, 1-5 A-Sun).

JU dominated doubles play, taking all three matchups from the Owls but lost four out of six in singles. Therese Lagerkvist (KSU) defeated Carrero 6-2, 2-6, 6-1, clinching the A-Sun meeting.

The Dolphins are back in action in this weekend at the Watson Family Tennis Complex when they face Campbell and USC Upstate on Friday and Saturday respectively.
