The Dolphins (8-9, 2-6 A-Sun) posted identical match results in both games, dropping the doubles point and then managing wins at the Nos. 1, 2 and 5 positions.
“This was a disappointing weekend,” said JU head coach Shane Wood. “We knew what we needed to do coming in but we just couldn’t get it done against two strong opponents.”
On Friday, JU looked to end a two-game conference skid against Campbell but a poor start in doubles play led to a game of catch-up.
The Dolphins earned three-set victories from Tatiana Soldatova (5-7, 6-1, 6-1), Eve Castaing (6-1, 6-7, 6-1) and Virginia Iwinski (6-4, 0-6, 6-4) but were swept in straight sets in their other three matches.
Saturday brought hope of a new day but the results seemed all too familiar as, once again, the Dolphins started by dropping the doubles point to USC Upstate.
JU saw strong performances from Soldatova (7-6, 6-0) and Castaing (6-0, 6-0) while Iwinski also won her second match of the weekend (7-6, 3-6, 10-7).
The Dolphins will look to improve their recent form with two non-conference weekday matches against Missouri-Kansas City and Albany before a final A-Sun road trip to ETSU.
