Elsabeth Goshu fares well in 5,000-meter to close out Pepsi Florida Relays
Junior Elsabeth Goshu performed well in the 5,000-meter run to close out a strong showing for the JU track & field team at the 65th-annual Pepsi Florida Relays on Saturday in Gainesville, Fla.

Goshu had an 11th place finish with a time of 18:21.33 in the final event for the Dolphins at the meet.

“This was a very good meet for us,” said JU head coach Ron Grigg. “Elsabeth had a good showing today to keep up with all the great performances from yesterday. I’m pleased with how we performed this weekend and our goal is to keep progressing like this as we move deeper into the season.”

On Friday, the Dolphins opened their first meet in more than four weeks with two NCAA regional qualifying marks, a new school record and a pair of freshman with good performances in their first 3,000-meter steeplechase.

Junior Alyssa Deal broke the school record in the 1,500-meter with a time of 4:35.75, while senior Natasha Harvey tallied regional qualifying marks in the long jump (20’2.5” (6.16m)-3rd) and in the 100-meter hurdles (13.73-11th).

In the 3000-meter steeplechase, freshman Susanne Klungtveit performed well for the Dolphins after running an 11:25.41 to take 10th place. Freshman Kelli Midden finished 14th in the same event with a time of 11:59.74.

The Dolphins return to the track on Friday when they head to Tallahassee, Fla. for the Seminole Invitational.
