JU track & field signee Joane Pierre wins two 2A Florida State Championships
The Dolphins witnessed a small taste of the future as JU track & field signee Joane Pierre won the 800 and 1,600-meters titles for Immokalee High School at the 2A Florida High School Athletic Association Outdoor Track & Field Finals on May 2 in Winter Park, Fla.
Pierre, who will join the Dolphins in the fall, won the 800-meter with a time of 2:14.10. She ran a 4:56.36 in the 1,600-meter, which leads the state of Florida and is 12th amongst all US high school runners. Pierre also placed fifth in the 3,200-meter with an 11:33.58.
The Immokalee senior accomplished all three of these makes in less than an hour and 25 minutes to make her meet more impressive.
“Joane's meet was impressive,” said JU head coach Ron Grigg. “The crowd really appreciated her efforts because they knew they were seeing something special. We at JU are excited that she will continue her successes in a Dolphin uniform.”
Pierre will jump in right away with the JU cross country team this fall after finishing second at the 2008 2A State Championships with a time of 18:13 and placing 30th at the Footlocker South Regional by running an 18:17 as a senior for Immokalee.
