Tubbs Meets Challenge Of Nation's Elite

Gainesville, Fla. - Jacksonville freshman track sensation Monique Tubbs went up against the toughest competition of her short collegiate career today and her results proved she belongs at the highest levels of competition. After running the fourth fastest time in the qualifying heats (6.98), Tubbs finished ninth in the 55 meter dash final (7.05) at the Gator Invitational hosted by the University of Florida. Only LSU's Sadonna Thorton (6.95) and FSU's Tonya Carter (6.81) ran faster preliminary heat times (of collegiate competitors) than Tubbs who was just .04 off an NCAA qualifying standard.

Tubbs also placed 23rd in the 200 meter dash in a time of 25.72. Laura Winn placed 37th (1:02.59) in the 400 meter dash for the Dolphins while Laura Kunak (2:29.65), Christine Weiher (2:33.83) and Marissa Sylvain (2:35.39) finished 29th-31st respectively in the 800 meter run. Weiher (5:27.89), Jennifer Takach (5:33.92), Kate Benson (5:58.03) and Nicole Callahan (6:13.84) finished 28th, 32nd, 34th and 26th respectively in the mile for JU. In the 3,000 meters, JU's Adriana Campos (10:32.45) and Aimee Salzer (10:49.69) finished 18th and 19th respectively.

In the jumps, Lysa Lee finished 20th in the long jump with a distance of 4.93 meters. Sara Robertson and Ingrid Rackenbrandt both no heighted in the pole vault for JU.
