Track & field sets records on final day of Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational
The JU track & field team wrapped its final regular season indoor meet on a good note after recording three school records at the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational on Saturday in Lincoln, Neb.

Junior Unique Singleton was right in the thick of things by setting two new school marks. She improved her 400-meter record that she set yesterday in the preliminaries (55.56) after running a time of 55.19 for sixth in the finals.

Singleton along with junior Danielle Davenport, freshman Charlene Charles and junior J’Zotta Rolle set the new standard in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:45.50 (2nd). Freshman Joane Pierre ran a new school best time of 4:57.65 in the mile to take first and round out JU’s record breakers.

“The second day was much better for us,” said JU head coach Ron Grigg. “We competed at a high caliber en route to three school records. I was happy with the improvement and we really look forward to training these next two weeks to get ready for the conference meet.”

In the sprints, junior Louise Kieran finished third in the 60-meter finals with a time of 7.65 and seventh in the 200-meter after running a 24.88. Charles (8.84, 2nd) and Rolle (8.89, 3rd) finished right behind each other in the 60-meter hurdle consolation, while senior Tiffany Bromfield was fifth with a time of 8.95.

Sophomore Anastasia Fokina took fourth in the mile with Pierre after running a time of 5:03.93 and senior Alyssa Deal placed ninth (5:12.63). Senior Ali Ritter finished fifth in the other mile race of the day with a time of 5:02.75.

Pierre and Ritter with sophomores Amalia Vogler and Stacey Young took fifth in the distance medley relay with a time of 12:10.88.

Young would also place seventh triple jump with a leap of 38’6.25” (11.74m), while Vogler was eighth in the 800-meter (2:17.75).

The Dolphins return to action beginning Feb. 26 when they head to Johnson City, Tenn. in search of their fifth consecutive conference title at the Atlantic Sun Indoor Track & Field Championships.
