Joane Pierre earns Atlantic Sun Track “Athlete of the Week”
Freshman Joane Pierre is setting the framework for a successful JU track career after breaking the school record in the mile at the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational to receive Atlantic Sun Conference Track “Performer of the Week” honors.

The Immokalee, Fla. native ran a new school standard time of 4:57.65 to win the event and break the mark set by fellow teammate Alyssa Deal, who ran a 4:59.75 at the A-Sun Championships last season.

Pierre finished the meet running a portion of the distance medley relay that posted a time of 12:10.88.

“We have yet to find the boundaries of Joane’s talent,” said JU head coach Ron Grigg. “Her win in Nebraska was both impressive and a crowd pleaser.”

Pierre is the second straight Dolphin to earn the weekly honor after freshman Charlene Charles secured A-Sun Field “Athlete of Week” accolades on Feb. 3 for winning the long jump and pentathlon at the Jimmy Carnes Invitational.

The Dolphins return to action on Feb. 26 when they head to Johnson City, Tenn. in search of their fifth consecutive conference title at the A-Sun Indoor Track & Field Championships.
