Joane Pierre earns A-Sun Track “Athlete of the Week”
Freshman Joane Pierre once again etched her name in the record books after breaking the 800-meter mark at the Tom Jones Memorial Invitational to earn Atlantic Sun Conference Track “Athlete of the Week honors.”
Pierre earns her first career outdoor honor by running a time of 2:08.17 to win the event and break the school record held by former Dolphin Janel Grooms, who ran a 2:08.41 on May 31, 2008 in Gainesville, Fla.
“We are really just learning how good Joane can be,” said JU head coach Grigg. “She has shown she can match talent with any level of competition. We look forward to watching her excel during the championship season.”
Pierre is the third Dolphin during the outdoor season to get the weekly accolade after freshman Charlene Charles won the honor on March 31 and junior J’Zotta Rolle secured the award on April 7.
The Dolphins will continue with finals this week before competing against the cross-town rival Ospreys at the JU-UNF Dual on April 29.
