Joane Pierre earns A-Sun Track “Athlete of the Week” honors
Freshman Joane Pierre broke her own 1,500-meter school record at the FSU Twilight on May 8 en route to earning her second Atlantic Sun Conference Track “Athlete of the Week” honor.
Pierre placed sixth in the 1,500-meter with a time of 4:29.10, which broke her previous time of 4:30.49 at the FSU Relays on March 25.
“Joane continues to impress as a freshman,” said JU head coach Ron Grigg. “The better the competition she has faced, the faster she has gone. It will be exciting to watch her compete in the 800-meter at the NCAA East Preliminary round.”
Pierre is the only two-time honoree for JU this outdoor season, while freshman Charlene Charles along with juniors J’Zotta Rolle and Unique Singleton have each won the accolade once.
The Dolphins compete for their fifth straight conference title on Friday in the A-Sun Outdoor Championships at UNF. Fans can follow the live results on atlanticsun.org and a special live blog through JUDolphins.com.
