Oct. 11, 2007

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The JU men's and women's cross country teams will be competing again on Friday at the SODEXHO Hatter Invitational in DeLand, Fla. in their final tuneup for the A-Sun Championships.

The women's team has competed in four races so far this season, two of which were less than the 5K they will be running at the Atlantic Sun Championships on Oct. 27.

"The team has shown steady progress from week to week with an eye towards peak performances at the ASUN Conference Championships in Nashville," said JU head coach Ron Grigg. "We plan to stay focused as we enter our last two weeks of training."

The Dolphins have been without last year's star runner, sophomore Alyssa Deal for most of the season due to injury. In her absence, freshman Anastasia Fokina has been the leader, being the first JU finisher in all four races so far this season.

Sophomore Alison Ritter has had a strong start to the season. Her best time is 19:38.28, which she ran at the FSU Invitational - earning her a 26th place finish out of 102 competitors.

Senior Danielle Coyle, who has been battling injuries of her own, junior Janel Grooms and sophomore Tiffanie Saxton have also had strong finishes this season.

The men's team will be in action for the first time since the JU/UNF Cross Country Relays that was held on Sept. 14th.
