JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The JU women's outdoor track & field team begins its quest for three consecutive Atlantic Sun Conference outdoor titles on Thursday as they open the 2008 season in Tallahassee, Fla. at the FSU Relays.
The Dolphins, fresh off of claiming their third consecutive A-Sun indoor championship, are led by junior Natasha Harvey who recently earned All-America honors in the long jump after placing third with a career-best mark of 21-8.00" at the 2008 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships on March 14 in Fayetteville, Ark.
"This first meet will serve as a way to dust off the cobwebs that may have gathered from the end of indoor season and through Spring Break," said JU head coach Ron Grigg. "There will be quality competition and every opportunity to perform well. We will get a real indication of how we are training and performing as a team."
The Dolphins also return junior Shaquania Lundy, who along with Harvey also competed in the long jump at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships and placed 16th.
In 2007, the Dolphins had 16 all-conference performances and six conference champions, while also having 15 of their 17 participants score points in the meet. The Dolphins scored 104 points in track events, enough to win the team title alone, and had 75 points in the field events to complete the well-rounded effort.
