JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Freshman Laura Phillips of the JU women's outdoor track & field team was named the Atlantic Sun "Athlete of the Week" on Wednesday.

Phillips shattered the school record in the hammer throw over the weekend at the UCF Invitational in Orlando, Fla., throwing 133'00 - more than three feet further than the previous school record of 129'11 set by Shunisha McClinton in 2006.

"Coach Carson has done a great job of developing Laura's talent," said JU head coach Ron Grigg. "We are excited to watch her continue to grow and succeed within our program."

In the discus throw, Phillips recorded the second furthest throw in the conference this season after she produced a mark of 132'06.

Phillips, a freshman out of Nease High School, becomes the third Dolphin to earn "Athlete of the Week" honors this season after juniors Natasha Harvey and Shaquania Lundy picked up the award on April 23 and April 9, respectively.

The Dolphins will travel to Clemson, S.C. this weekend in search of their third consecutive A-Sun Outdoor Championship.
