Track & field sweeps A-Sun “Athlete of the Week” honors
Senior Ronnisha Hall and sophomore Bienna Freeman each had solid days for the JU track & field team at the UCF Invitational en route to a sweep of the A-Sun “Athlete of the Week" accolades.
Hall received field performer honors for the third straight week after breaking the program record in the hammer, once again, with a toss of 177’9” (3rd). She also improved her conference lead in the shot put with a toss of 47’8.5" (5th) before rounding her day with a toss of 144'11” in the discus.
Along with leading the A-Sun, Hall’s hammer and shot put marks rank in the top 30 in the east region and among the top 60 nationally. She also ranks 38th in the region for the discus and 90th nationally.
“Every time Ronnisha touches the hammer she throws it farther,” said JU head coach Ron Grigg. “Now, she is finding a new level with her shot put as well. She is having an excellent senior season.”
Freeman was named track performer of the week by winning the 800-meter with an A-Sun best time of 2:09.61. The time also is seventh in the east region and 31st nationally.
“Bienna is getting better each week,” said Grigg. “She has run well from 400 to 1500 meters already this season. It will be exciting to watch her develop as the season progresses.”
The Dolphins return to action starting Friday with the Florida Relays in Gainesville, Fla.
