Danielle Davenport named A-Sun Track “Athlete of the Week”
Senior Danielle Davenport was named A-Sun Track “Athlete of the Week” after making a case for a postseason invitation by breaking the JU track & field 400-meter record at the Seminole Twilight on May 7.
Davenport won the event with a new program and A-Sun-best time of 53.53. The time also ranks ninth in the East and 30th nationally.
“Danielle is a true success story - from walk-on to conference champion, NCAA preliminary round qualifier and NCAA participant (4x100 relay 2009),” said JU head coach Ron Grigg. “I am so proud of her progress which is fully due to her determination to succeed. I am excited to watch her senior season continue.”
The Lawrenceville, Ga. native is the third Dolphin to pick up A-Sun weekly honors during the outdoor season, joining senior Ronnisha Hall (Mar. 16, 23, 30) and sophomore Bienna Freeman (Mar. 30).
Davenport and the Dolphins return to action starting Friday with the North Florida Invitational at Hodges Stadium on the UNF campus.
