Track & field finishes rain-shortened UNF Invitational

The JU track & field team found ways to shine inside of a rain-shortened Best Western/North Florida Invitational Saturday afternoon at Hodges Stadium.

Junior Joane Pierre finished second in the 800-meter with a time of 2:07.67. Junior Bienna Freeman finished fifth in the same event in 2:10.98.

In the discus, junior Akeela Bravo led the Dolphins with a toss of 148’9” (6th), while senior Laura Phillips was eighth with a 139’9”

“The weather didn't cooperate today, but Joane and Akeela continue to lead the way for us,” JU head coach Ron Grigg said. “I look forward to seeing what will happen at Florida relays next week.”

Senior Amalia Vogler (2:13.87) and freshman Sarah Bailey (2:18.14) also ran for the Dolphins in the 800. Junior Sara Schunter (125’0”) and freshman Sally Marie Futch (122’10”) finished 12th and 13th, respectively, in the discus throw.

Freshman Shadaey Campbell ran a time of 57.51 (15th) in the 400-meter to round out JU’s day.

The Dolphins return to action Friday for the prestigious Pepsi Florida Relays in Gainesville, Fla.
