Charlene Charles wraps first day of the NCAA Heptathlon
Junior Charlene Charles posted 3,291 points (16th) on the first day of the heptathlon at the NCAA Championships Thursday afternoon.
The French native’s highlight of the day was in the high jump with a leap of 5’6.5” for sixth place. She also finished 10th in the 200-meter in 24.59.
Charles ran a time of 14.07 (16th) in the 100-meter hurdles and had a personal-best throw of 34’1.5” (20th) in the shot put to wrap the first four events.
“Charlene had a solid day that included a personal best in the shot put,” JU head coach Ron Grigg said. “She is in a good position at the end of day one. She has some strong events tomorrow.”
Charles will wrap the competition beginning tomorrow at 4 p.m. EST with the long jump. She follows with the javelin (5:15 p.m.) and 800-meter (7:45 p.m.).
