T&F Wins Six Events, Sets Record at UNF Invite

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – After earning four individual wins last weekend in their outdoor season-opener, Jacksonville University track and field recorded six individual wins and set two new JU outdoor records during day one of the two-day UNF Spring Break Invitational.

Courtney Walker won three individual events on Friday. She won the long jump with a reach of 5.89m (19-04.00) while Kaitlyn Taylor earned third (5.65m, 18-06.50), she won the 200m dash in 24.09 seconds while Shadaey Campbell finished fifth (24.52) and Chynna Monica Chung placed 15th (25.93), and Courtney also placed first in the 100m dash prelims in 11.86 seconds to qualify for Saturday’s final. Chung took 12th in 12.54 seconds.

Shanique Walker won the 400m hurdles for the second straight week in a personal best 59.20 seconds. Tatiana Wolfe placed sixth in 1:04.93 minutes. Shanique Walker also won the 100m hurdles prelims in 13.61 seconds to qualify for Saturday’s finals. Wolfe also qualified with a time of 14.25 seconds for fifth place.

Svenja Meyer won the 5,000m run in a new Jacksonville University outdoor record of 16:55.03, well ahead of second-place finisher Alyssa Brandt from North Florida who crossed in 17:34.72. JU’s previous 5,000m best of 17:10.19 was set by Joane Pierre in March 2012.

Kree Clark, Samantha Turner and Sally Marie Futch placed first, fourth and seventh, respectively, in the discus throw. Clark, the top collegiate finisher and second overall, tossed 48.74m (159-11), Turner 46.37m (152-01) and Futch 43.40m (142-05).

In the 400m dash, Shadaey Campbell tied with Georgia Southern’s Asha Stegall for second place in 55.31 seconds.

Futch, Clark and Turner also recorded seventh, 10th and 15th, respectively, in the hammer throw with tosses of 49.46m (162-03), 45.89m (150-07) and 43.78m (143-08). Turner also recorded a third-place finish in the shot put with 13.33m (43-09.00).

In the high jump, Tia Smith earned third with a leap of 1.52m (4-11.75).

In the 1,500m run, Katy Solis and Caitlin Marino placed ninth and 13th, respectively. Solis finished in 4:48.15 and Marino in 4:52.83.
