Track & Field Wins Two Events at Tom Jones Invite

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Jacksonville University track and field competed in the Tom Jones Memorial Invitational in Gainesville on Saturday, April 19 and won two individual events.

Kree Clark and Samantha Turner placed first and second, respectively, in the discus throw, tossing 50.27m (164’ 11”) and 48.40m (158’ 09”). Sally Marie Futch threw 41.38m (135’ 09”) which was good for eighth place.

Shanique Walker also placed first in the 100m hurdles BLUE in 13.47 seconds out of nine runners.

Svenja Meyer ran 4:36.57 minutes in the 1,500m run to place third of 24. North Florida’s Alyssa Brandt won in 4:35.39.

In the hammer throw, Clark, Futch and Turner placed third, eighth and 12th, respectively. Clark tossed 51.38m (168’ 07”), Futch 48.66m (159’ 08”) and Turner 41.83m (137’ 03”). In the shot put, Turner placed fourth with 13.37m (43’ 10.50”) and Futch earned eighth with 12.46m (40’ 10.50”).

Katy Solis ran to fifth in the 3,000m run in 10:12.00 minutes while Caitlin Marino finished 15th in 10:43.12.

In the 400m dash, Courtney Walker placed seventh in 54.17 seconds and Shadaey Campbell finished 12th in 55.02 seconds.

Shanique Walker and Kaitlyn Taylor jumped to fifth and sixth place, respectively, in the triple jump. Walker reached 12.32m (40’ 05.00”) and Taylor 12.30m (40’ 04.25”).

In the high jump, Tiaona Smith placed 10th with a reach of 1.54m (5’ 00.50”).

In the 100m dash, Chynna Monica Chung placed 23rd of 28 in 12.63 seconds. Tori Bowie of Pure Athletics won in 11.10 seconds. Chung placed 45th of 51 in the 200m dash in 26.32 seconds while Courtney Walker finished 19th (24.15 seconds) and Shadaey Campbell 20th (24.27 seconds).

Next, Jacksonville will compete in the historic Penn Relays on April 24 in Philadelphia, Pa.
