Tubbs Earns All-America Honors

Fayetteville, Ark. - Jacksonville freshman Monique Tubbs earned All-America honors in the 60 Meter dash at the 2000 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships this past weekend. The only freshman to qualify for the finals, Tubbs ran a 7.37 to finish seventh after qualifying with a time of 7.31 in the meets second heat. Florida State senior Tonya Carter won the finals in a time of 7.21, followed by LSU Senior Peta-Gaye Dowdie (7.29) and Mississippi junior Teneeshia Jones (7.32). In a closely contested finals, just .03 separated fourth through seventh place.
By virtue of the two points picked up by Tubbs in the 60 Meters, Jacksonville finished the meet tied for 50th with Oral Roberts, Georgia Tech, , N.C. State, Seton Hall and Minnesota. UCLA won the team title (51), followed by South Carolina (41) and Arkansas (37).
