Track & Field Competes In The Virginia Tech-Pepsi Valentines Invitational

BLACKSBURG, Va. - Seven members of the Jacksonville University track and field team competed in the Virginia Tech-Pepsi Valentines Invitational this weekend at the Rector Field House in Blacksburg, Va.

Sophomore Monique Tubbs (Holbrook, Mass.) finished second in the 60m dash, running her best time of the 2001 indoor season, crossing the finish line at 7.40. Tubbs has already provisionally qualified for the 2001 NCAA Indoor Track & Field National Championships on March 9-10 in Fayetteville, Ark.

Fellow sophomores Andrea Pressley (Temple Hills, Md.) and Safiya Davy (Mitchville, Md.) competed in the 60m hurdles. Pressley placed fourth (8.63) while Davy came in sixth (8.88). Pressley also competed in the shot put, placing 21st with a throw of 11.83m.

In the men's 400m dash, sophomore Rowan Irons (Durban, South Africa) finished 19th with a time of 50.54.

Three men from the Dolphin squad ran in the preliminaries of the 60m dash. Senior Jon Underhill (Plantation, Fla.) led the trio, crossing the finish line at 7.00. Freshman Kenneth Baxter (New York, N.Y.) and sophomore Boshawn Mack (Clearwater, Fla.) came in with times of 7.04 and 7.08, respectively.

The men's and women's track and field teams compete next on Feb. 23-24 in the Last Chance Meet at the campus of Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Va.
