Monique Tubbs To Compete In NCAA Championships

March 8, 2001

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - For the second year in a row, sprinter Monique Tubbs (Hobrook, Mass.) will compete in the 60-meter dash this weekend at the NCAA Division I Indoor Track & Field National Championships in Fayetteville, Ark.

Tubbs', who earned All-America status as a freshman by placing seventh overall in the 60-meter dash at the 2000 NCAA Division I Indoor Championships with a time of 7.37, qualified for this year's event by tying her personal-best time of 7.28 at the Nike Fast Times meet on Feb. 28th in Gainesville, Fla. Tubbs currently ranks third in the nation along with Teneeshia Jones of Mississippi.

Last year at the championships, Tubbs was the only freshman to qualify for the finals in the 60-meter dash.

Prior to the Nike Fast Times meet, Tubbs had provisionally qualified for the championships, but it was unclear whether or not her time would have been fast enough to qualify.
