Monique Tubbs Provisionally Qualifies In Women's 100m, 200m Dash

ATHENS, Ga. - Monique Tubbs (Holbrook, Mass.), who won the 2001 NCAA Indoor National Championship in the 60-meter dash last March, placed second in the women's 100-meter and 200-meter dash, and helped lead the women's 4x100 relay team to a second place finish Saturday afternoon at the Georgia Invitational in Athens, Ga.

Tubbs crossed the finish line of the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.52, which was fast enough to provisionally qualify her for the 2001 NCAA Outdoor National Championships on May 30-June 2 in Eugene, Ore.

In the 200-meter dash, Tubbs continued her impressive sophomore season by provisionally qualifying for the second time in the day with a run of 23.57.

The Dolphins placed second in the women's 4x100 relay when the team of Tubbs, Safiya Davy (Mitchville, Md.), Andrea Pressley (Temple Hills, Md.) and Tiffany Wright (Lauderdale Lakes, Fla.) crossed the finish line with a time of 46.23.

Davy also placed fourth in the women's 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.06, and Pressley finished right behind in fifth-place with a run of 14.14. Pressley turned in another fifth-place finish in the shot put when she threw the shot 13.02 meters.

Wright placed 13th in the 100-meter dash (12.40) and 14th in the 200-meter dash (25.34), while Kate Clark (Dallas, Texas) came in seventh-place in the women's 400-meter dash (56.52).

In men's action, Kenneth Baxter (New York, N.Y.), who was named the 2001 Trans America Athletic Conference Freshman-of-the-Year, crossed the finish line of the 100-meter dash in 13th-place (10.75) and placed ninth in the 200-meter dash (21.22). Boshawn Mack (Clearwater, Fla.) finished 33rd in the 100-meter dash (11.09) and 15th in the 200-meter dash (21.96).

The Dolphins return to action on May 18, when they travel to Atlanta to compete in the Georgia Tech Invitational.
