Andrea Pressley Provisionally Qualifies In Heptathlon

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - JU sophomore Andrea Pressley (Temple Hills, Md.) scored a personal-best 5,357 to win the Seminole Twilight Meet heptathlon Saturday afternoon at the Mike Long Track on the campus of Florida State University.

Pressley, who won her second heptathlon in as many meets, scored high enough to rank her 19th in the nation and provisionally qualify for the 2001 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships to be held on May 30-31, in Eugene, Ore.

In today's action, Pressley scored a mark of 17-7 feet in the long jump, threw the javelin 110-8 feet and crossed the finish line of the 800-meter run at 2:20.63. Yesterday, Pressley competed in four events: the 100-meter hurdles (13.88), high jump (5-3 feet), shot put (41-10 feet) and 200-meter dash (25.02).

In the decathlon, junior Phil Armijo (El Dorado, Kan.) moved up two positions to finish third after being in fifth-place at the conclusion of Friday's event's.

The Dolphins return to action next week when they travel to Atlanta, Ga. for the Georgia Tech Invitational on May 18-19.
