JU CROSS COUNTRY TEAMS OPEN SEASON AT UCF INVITATIONAL

ORLANDO, Fla. - ORLANDO, Fla. - The Jacksonville University women's cross country team opened the season with an eighth place finish, while the men came in 15th at the UCF Cross Country Invitational Friday evening in Orlando.

The women's team finished the 5-K race with 210 total points as sophomore Chelsea Knight led the Dolphins with a team-best 31st place finish in 20:08.

Other JU scorers were Alexis Wieroniey (45th, 20:33), Christina Bensi (58th, 21:07), Tasmin Anstey (62nd, 21:22), Jennifer Takach (68th, 21:31) and Laura Winn (94th, 22:33).

On the men's side JU finished the 8-K in 15th place, with a total of 418 points. Jeremy Berven led the Dolphins with an 92nd place finish in 30:39. Rowan Irons followed with an 129th place finish in 31:17. Other scorers were Scott Cook (113th, 32:11), Tony Strother (122nd, 32:43), Phil Armijo (131st, 33:49), Brian Boone (137th, 35:56) and Drew Domoto (138th, 36:18).

Florida swept the meet with 23 total points in both the men's and women's race with an average time of 25:38 and 18:31 respectively. The Dolphins return to action on Saturday, September 15 as they travel to Atlanta, Ga. to compete in the Georgia State Invitational.
