Track's Monique Tubbs Returns Home For Husky Invitational

Jan. 30, 2003

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Jacksonville University senior sprinter Monique Tubbs (Boston, Mass.) is returning home to compete in the Husky Indoor Invitational hosted by Northeastern University at the Reggie Lewis Track and Field Center Friday in Boston. Tubbs, who currently holds the No. 7 ranking in the 60-meter dash in the Trackwire Dandy Dozen, is the 2001 NCAA 60-meter Indoor National Champion as well as a three-time All-American.

"Monique will have the opportunity to run really well at the Husky Invitational," said head track coach Ron Grigg, who also is a Boston-area native. "The fast and familiar track and the support of friends and family should be enough motivation for good performances in both the 55 and 200-meters."

Tubbs is returning to the track (Reggie Lewis Center) where she captured the 60-meter state and national high school championships as a senior at Boston Latin High School. Tubbs' time of 7.36 in the 60-meter is currently the seventh fastest time in the country, which she achieved earlier this month at the Florida Indoor Intercollegiate in Gainesville.

Boston College, Connecticut, Rhode Island, South Florida and Syracuse are just a few of the schools Monique will be competing against at the Husky Invitational.

Tubbs and the entire Dolphin team return to action at the Gator Indoor Invitational Sunday, Feb. 9 in Gainesville, Fla., at the Stephen C. O'Connell Center.
