Monique Tubbs Sets New School Record in 100-Meter Dash at Florida Relays

GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Jacksonville University junior sprinter Monique Tubbs (Boston, Mass.) set a new JU school record in the 100-meter dash finishing third with a time of 11.37 at the Coca-Cola Florida Relays Friday afternoon at the Percy Beard Track in Gainesville. Junior Safiya Davy (Mitchellville, Md.) improved her NCAA regional qualifying mark from last weekend with an eighth-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles.

Tubbs was in the same heat as South Carolina's Aleen Bailey and Erica Whipple, who finished first and second, respectively, in the 100. Tubbs also achieved an NCAA regional qualifying time in the 200-meter winning her heat with a time of 23.61. Davy finished with a time of 13.81 in the 100-meter hurdles to improve her NCAA regional qualifying time by 18 hundredths of a second, which she accomplished last weekend at the FSU Relays, while also placing 36th in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:05.41.

Freshman Lakisha Brooks (Upper Marlboro, Md.) finished 28th in the 400-meter with a time of 57.14, while senior Kate Clarke (Arlington, Texas) finished 32nd. Freshman Keiona Frenche (Riverdale, Md.) placed 36th in the 800-meter run, while freshman Karen Edmonds (Green Cove Springs, Fla.) and sophomore Patti Jenkins (Orlando, Fla.) finished 34th and 55th, respectively, in the 1500.

JU resumes competition at the Coca-Cola Florida Relays Saturday with its relay events at the Percy Beard Track on the University of Florida campus in Gainesville.
