April 15, 2003

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Jacksonville University senior sprinter Monique Tubbs (Boston, Mass.) is featured in the "Faces in the Crowd" section in this week's (April 14) Sports Illustrated. Tubbs recently became the first female athlete in JU history to earn All-America honors four times.

Tubbs is a four-time NCAA Indoor All-American in the 60-meter dash, including winning the 2001 National Championship, finishing third at the NCAA Indoor Championships last month. Tubbs, who has earned back-to-back A-Sun Track Athlete-of-the-Week honors, has established new school records in the 55-meter dash and the 100-meter dash and has the third-fastest time in the world in the 100-meter under all conditions with a wind-aided time of 11.13, which she set at the Texas Relays two weeks ago.

Tubbs and the rest of the Dolphins return to action at the Atlantic Sun Championships, April 17-18 in Orlando, Fla., hosted by UCF.
