April 28, 2003

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Jacksonville University track team has announced the signing of Stephanie Jeffers (Barnstable, Mass.), the 2003 Massachusetts Indoor state champion in the shot put, to a national letter of intent Monday. The Dolphins also inked Ashley Williams (Oklahoma City, Okla.), a three-time state champ in the 400-meter dash, and local cross country standout Stacey Ollar (Jacksonville/Mandarin).

Jeffers, a senior at Barnstable (Mass.) High School, captured indoor shot put titles in both the Massachusetts and New England Indoor Championships as a senior, while establishing a new personal best with a mark of 43-11'1/2" at the New England Indoor Championships. Williams is a three-time 5A state champion in the 400-meter dash at Putnam City North (Okla.) High School. Ollar, a senior at Mandarin High School in Jacksonville, earned cross country Gateway All-Conference honors as a senior and led the Mustangs to conference championships her sophomore and junior seasons, while serving as team captain the past three seasons.

"These three young athletes will provide quality and depth for our program at the conference level," said head track coach Ron Grigg. "But, most importantly, they possess the quality of character which will fit extremely well within our program."

The Dolphins returns to action Sunday, May 4 at the Florida Invitational in Gainesville, Fla.
