May 5, 2003

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Jacksonville University track team has announced the signing of Natasha Stevenson (Haverhill, Mass.), the 2003 New England Indoor Champion in the 300-meter dash, to a national letter of intent Monday. Stevenson is the fourth athlete to sign with the Dolphins during the spring signing period.

Stevenson captured the 300-meter dash at the 2003 New England Indoor Championships with a time of 39.74, which equals the eighth-fastest time in the country in the 300-meter this season according to Dyestat.com. As a junior at Haverhill HS, Stevenson won the Massachusetts Class-A state championship in the 400-meter.

"Stevenson is an outstanding athlete with tremendous potential," said head track coach Ron Grigg, who is entering his second season. "She should be able to continue the tradition of outstanding athletes from the New England area that have enjoyed productive careers at Jacksonville University."

The Dolphins announced the signing of Stephanie Jeffers (Barnstable, Mass.), the 2003 Massachusetts Indoor state champion in the shot put, to a national letter of intent last week. JU also signed Ashley Williams (Oklahoma City, Okla.), a three-time state champion in the 400-meter dash and local cross-country standout Stacey Ollar (Jacksonville/Mandarin).

JU returns to action at the FSU Twilight Saturday, May 10 in Tallahassee, Fla.
