Safiya Davy Finishes Second in 100-Meter Hurdles at Georgia Tech Invitational

ATLANTA, Ga. - Jacksonville University junior Safiya Davy (Mitchellville, Md.) finished second in the finals in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 13.61 at the Georgia Tech Last Chance Invitational Saturday evening at George C. Griffin Track on Georgia Tech's campus. Junior Andrea Pressley (Upper Marlboro, Md.) placed ninth in the javelin and 15th in the shot put.

Davy qualified sixth for the finals with a time of 13.93 in the preliminaries, but turned it on in the finals to finish second behind Essex County's Melanie Walker, the 2003 NJCAA National Champion in the 100-meter hurdles, and achieve an NCAA Regional Qualifying mark for the eighth time in nine races this season.

Junior Monique Tubbs (Boston, Mass.) finished second in the preliminaries in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.51 to qualify for the finals, but was held out of the finals due to precautionary measures. Pressley finished ninth in the javelin with a throw of 36.65 meters (120-3') and 15th in the shot put with a mark of 12.25 meters (40-2'1/4") in Friday's events.
